The lede in this Lexington Dispatch article pretty much sums up the situation not just in Davidson County but in the entire Triad area:

The Davidson County Board of Commissioners, desperate for any good economic news, may be a step closer to landing a manufacturing company and 328 jobs after unanimously approving a $159,000 incentive package at a meeting Tuesday night.

As usual, Davidson County Economic Developer Steve Googe refused to the name the company, instead referring to it by its double-secret code name —“Project Power.”

Meanwhile, the City of Lexington is seeking funding from HUD — my favorite federal bureacracy —which is undertaking a property-flipping scheme better known as the “Neighborhood Stabilization Program.”

Back up I-85, Greensboro is chasing the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, which would —- do I even have to say it —- “require an unspecified outlay from the winning city.”

And the Greensboro City Council —right after approving Lindbrook’s $100,000 forgivable loan —- is telling City Manager Mitchell Johnson no new taxes, to which Johnson replied that he’d have to reduce services.

There you have it, in a nutshell.
