As Donna posted below, Mike Woodard is assisting Durham’s always-upset-about-something Human Relations Commission in demagoging Arizona’s immigration law.

Instead of telling the HRC that its request was out of bounds and that maybe they should read the law that conforms fully with federal law on immigration, Woodard has requested that city officials take valuable time to react to the HRC request.

Woodard in turn asked administrators to put it on the agenda for discussion at the council’s work session this coming Thursday.

“They wanted it presented to the council in a timely fashion,” Woodard said, explaining his move.

There hasn’t been a case of mass insanity in decades to rival the liberal reaction to the Arizona law. President Obama’s attorney general and his homeland security chief each criticized the law before reading it. What’s even more incredible is that they admitted their lapse.

My question is, have Woodard, the HRC, City Attorney Patrick Baker even read the bill? And, if so, why are they wasting valuable and expensive bureaucratic time dealing with this non-issue?

Here’s a suggestion, just shut up and govern Durham in a responsible manner and forget about making us a nuclear-free zone, or a sanctuary city, or boycotting Arizona for an entirely responsible law that deals with a serious border problem that we can only thank God we don’t have.
