The Watauga County Board of Commissioners held a press conference to make it perfectly clear that the proposed quarter-cent tax to be voted upon in the upcoming referendum was to be used solely for recreation. The extra tax would “fully fund the construction of a recreational center with aquatics center and fully fund the construction of the Eastern Watauga Community Center.” Excess revenue would be spent on the centers’ operations or for other recreational purposes in the county.
