Chicago recently initiated a policy of paying former gang members to act as “peacekeepers” in high-crime neighborhoods. Despite the presence of the so-called peacekeepers, the city experienced “tragic numbers” of shootings and homicides over the Memorial Day Weekend. In fact, the peacekeepers may actually have made things worse, given that one of them was arrested and charged with robbery and assault on Friday night.
