The Korean Herald reports that Song Yoo-geun, an eight year old boy, has become the youngest person ever to be admitted to Korean university. He recently became a freshman physics major at Inha University after completing his primary and secondary education in 9 months.

His parents have a rather progressive educational philosophy. “No fixed daily routines for our boy…Yoo-geun has a monthly schedule only. Rather than being confined by a rigid timetable, Yoo-geun has the freedom to explore every field he wants to.” Of course, when your child already knows everything, a rigid schedule is not quite necessary.

Unfortunately, his parents had to wage a legal battle against education authorities who would not accept his scores on primary and secondary school exams. I imagine that he would suffer the same fate in the U.S. public school system.
