Economists’ own Kurtz, having gone native in the heart of The New York Times, is now showing signs of a deeper malady. National Review‘s Byron York reports on a New York University forum in which Krugman participated. The author of this book:

spoke of a grand conspiracy based around Bush and built upon a “radical” “coalition between the malefactors of great wealth and the religious right” and “substantial chunks of the media” (that dang ole “corporate media” Hydra again, no doubt!) that is out to crush “civil rights” and goes back to Goldwater. Anyway, it’s evil, EVIL, he tells ya.

The solution, according to Krugman? Why, it’s gonna take on great big gonzo bull-moose of a scandal, a “mega-Watergate.” (Wait ? isn’t it already “unraveling”?) Any guesses as to what his columns are going to suggest during the next couple of months?
