The Rhino speculated that Guilford County commissioners would vote down the purchase of 100-plus acres in Kernersville for an airport-area high school. The price was too high and K’ville has wants the land for industrial development.

Surprise –the N&R reports (unposted) commissioners sign off with a 7-4 vote. But a proposed school still faces strong opposition from Kernersville alderman, who will have to rezone the property. The Rhino notes “siting the school in the business park became a major campaign issue” during the November election and the incoming Board of Alderman is firmly against it.

Stay tuned —remember the airport-area high school was part of the $457 million school bond approved by voters in May 2008.
