Burlington City Council members are bemoaning the economic incentives game, but that’s not stopping them from considering a package for LabCorp.

Mayor Pro Tem David Huffman offers up the familiar from suggestion from local officials —– let the federal government decide whether or local governments ‘play the game’:

…Huffman wants the federal government to outlaw incentives and take pressure off of states and local governments, but admits that’s unlikely to happen.

“As long as we are having to compete for industry, we’re either going to have to get in the game or not be a player,” Huffman said Wednesday. “It’s a rectangle-shaped football field, and you build your plays around the shape of the field. When they change the shape of the field, we’ll change our plays.”

LabCorp would build a 110,000-square-foot, two-story ‘world-class laboratory’ —- with no new jobs created.
