The Obama White House has closed to the press a ceremony for a press award. Yes, you read that correctly. A group of black publishers is going to give Obama and the First Lady its Newsmaker of the Year award, but White House officials say the media are barred:

From the president’s official schedule:

“Later in the afternoon, the President and the First Lady will attend a reception with the National Newspaper Publisher Association in the State Dining Room, where they will be presented the Newsmaker of the Year award. This event is closed press.”

One is left to wonder if this means that only the “non-black” media are barred. I have a feeling this isn’t over.
