WBT’s Keith Larson knocked one out of the park this morning riffing on the local Knight Ridder outlet’s reluctance to take a stand until it has cover to do so. He absolutely nailed the paper on suddenly being “disgusted” by the Lotto business, as if some of us hadn’t seen this coming for months.

Larson correctly made the connection between the Observer treating Jim Black with kid gloves and the evident — and wholly mistaken — belief that Mecklenburg benefits from having the speaker be a local. Yet I-485 is not getting done any faster, we don’t have enough prosecutors, where’s the great Jim Black payoff? (I’m paraphrasing.)

The culture of covering up and keeping quiet is surely in its last days in Charlotte.
