And there is only a first because the Charlotte Capitalist had some very interesting things to say about the Al Gore energy consumption flap. He concludes:

If conservatives went on the offensive against Gore’s ideas the way they gleefully go against his actions, they could win a battle. But they find it easier to mock, to attack the man, and to point out hypocrisy.

Cultural and political change do not stem from mockery and pointing out hypocrisy. Sure those things have their place. But cultural and political change stem primarily from ideas — advocating the right ones and opposing the wrong ones. Until the conservatives get this, they will continue to lose the battle of ideas.

The fact that we are even talking about Al Gore’s energy consumption proves just how stupendously successful slip-shod greenie arguments have become in recent years. Those on the right, certainly those in policy making posts or elected office, have responded only with their own “greenie lite” approach — an ugly call back to the days when the conservative response to the liberal welfare state was a less costly welfare state.

To me it seems the anyone who shares Gore’s worldview has two viable options. They can kill themselves, as theirs is a profoundly anti-human dogma. Or they can start building nuclear power plants. Which one they choose, I don’t much care.

Just don’t volunteer me for this enviro sackcloth and ashes routine. I’ve done nothing wrong.
