• Republican Richard Hudson, who’s challenging incumbent Rep. Larry Kissell for the 8th Congressional District, was given a speaking slot at next week’s Republican National Convention.

• Linda Coleman, Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, will appear at a reception/fundraiser in Garner Thursday night.

• Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge and UNC-Chapel Hill health policy professor Jonathan Oberlander host a conference call for the media attacking the Romney-Ryan budget and Medicare proposals.

• Meantime, the Romney campaign’s latest ad goes after the fiscal impact President Obama’s health care law is expected to have on Medicare.
