• Debra who? The state Republican Party has begun distancing itself from embattled state Auditor nominee Debra Goldman, who has vowed to stay in the race.
• Successor. Republicans officials in Senate District 30 will pick a nominee to fill the slot of the late Sen. Don East, though the Stokes County Republican’s name will remain on the ballot. If East gets the most votes, the Republican nominee will represent the district.
• Crossing the aisle. State Rep.Tim Moffitt, R-Buncombe, is touting the praise he has received regarding job creation from state Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco, an appointee of Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue.
• Harvesting votes. State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler, a Republican, runs two ads touting farming and food safety.
