A very busy Erik Spanberg relates that former Lowe’s Motor Speedway exec Lauri Wilks is eyeing a run for Charlotte city council at-large this fall as a Republican.

Her and her husband’s donations to Mayor Pat McCrory’s run for governor last year — $800 total — point to that identification. But what then to make of Wilks’ contributions to Bev Perdue, Roy Cooper, and Becky Carney? Together she and hubby Whit gave $3K to those Democrats, according to state campaign records. That includes $2K from Lauri Wilks to Perdue in October 2007 and $500 to Cooper last May.

State voter registration records also at the moment list Wilks as unaffiliated and indicate that she has never voted in a GOP primary.

Bonus Observation: And from the small world department are the accounts that have Whit Wilks leaving US Trust after it was acquired by Bank of America in mid-2007 to work for Stanford Financial Group.
