House Bill 62 was filed today. The primary sponsors are Rep. Rick Glazier (D-Cumberland) and Rep. Alice Bordsen (D-Alamance). Rep. Pricey Harrison (D-Guilford), Rep. Verla Insko (D-Orange), Rep. Debra Ross (D-Wake), and Rep. Jennifer Weiss (D-Wake) signed on as co-sponsors. The bill would direct the Department of Correction to study its aging inmate population and evaluate methods of addressing the needs of that population.

If passed into law, the Department of Correction would be required to conduct a study of its ?aging inmate population and evaluate the resources and facilities that will be necessary to deal with the health care, program needs, and adaptive device needs of those inmates and shall determine the desirability of establishing specialized facilities for geriatric inmates, in order to address the physical, nutritional, health care, psychological, and social needs of these older inmates.?

Rep. Joe Boylan (R-Moore) filed House Bill 60, which would call for a referendum vote in Moore County if 10 percent of the property owners in an area to be annexed asked for it. In order for the area to be annexed, a majority of the voters living in that area would have to approve the referendum.

Sen. Robert Pittenger (R-Mecklenburg) introduced Senate Bill 45. His proposal would authorize local school administrative units to consider performance when awarding annual salary increases to non-certified school employees.
