The head of the Wake County arm of NCAE has played her hand before the four new school board members have even been sworn in. Jennifer Lanane clearly isn’t open to new ideas, as her e-mail illustrates.

Lanane urged her members to lobby the new board to keep the early dismissals. She said the new board was “throwing teachers and students under the bus so that they can show how powerful they are.”

“They don’t care about children and it [is] now clear that they don’t care about teachers…WE HAVE [to] PLANT OUR FLAG IN THE SAND HERE AND NOW,” Lanane wrote.

Despite Lanane’s apology, she has, indeed, planted her group’s flag in the sand. Let this be Lesson #1 for the new board — they can count on little or no support from Big Education’s entrenched bureaucracy.
