School Choice is exploding in North Carolina and nationally. And for good reason: people want more choice in education and parents are the best persons to determine how and where their children are educated.
Over the last 25 years, policies to empower parents to choose the best education for their children have been approved across North Carolina. These include raising the cap of charter schools (North Carolina now has 210 charter schools), passage of the Opportunity Scholarship, approval of Personal Education Savings Accounts for special needs students and changes to simplify and improve home schooling in North Carolina. Last fall, the Opportunity Scholarship Program was expanded so that all families in North Carolina are eligible to apply for a scholarship. Under the new rules, families are eligible to apply for scholarships ranging between approximately $3,400 and $7,600, depending on household income. Join with millions of others across the country in celebrating school choice. National School Choice Week (NSCW), will be held January 26th through February 1, 2025. According to NSCW, 869 events will be held in North Carolina commemorating school choice in the Tar Heel state. On Tuesday, January 28th the John Locke Foundation will release results of its annual School Choice Poll. To find out more about NSCW events in North Carolina press here.
Happy School Choice Week!
