North Carolina demands workers get licensed in 107 professions, as many as Massachusetts and twelfth most in the nation. While Tennesse requires licensing in 110 professions, Virginia (89) and Georgia (87) require far fewer, and South Carolina only requires licenses for those in 60 professions — 35 of which are required in every state.
North Carolina is one of 19 states that requires librarians to be licensed, one of 14 states for retail salespersons, one of 9 states for animal trainers, and one of two states for geological and petroleum technicians.
