This is heart-breaking, and more than a little eerie:
WINSTON-SALEM ? It’s a case of art imitating life and, tragically, life imitating art.
Just hours after Andre Thorpe performed at the National Black Theatre Festival in “Bangin’,” a play warning teens against gang life, he learned that his older brother had been gunned down on a Durham street.
Tauarus Hamlett, 28, and another man died after being shot multiple times late Tuesday as they talked with friends outside an abandoned house.
Durham police said in a news release Thursday that robbery was a possible motive for the shootings. They were searching for two suspects.
“What we are trying to portray, it happened to my brother,” said Thorpe, 22, on Thursday before his next performance with Walltown Children’s Theatre.
