Betsy Newmark has a lot of good links and comments of her own on the Duke lacrosse story, but my favorite is this:
If [Duke] professors have a worldview that regards some people, notably middle
and upper-class whites, as undeserving winners in the game of life,
then they’re going to have a problem with many of the students who get
into a university like Duke. No one is forcing these professors to
teach at such a citadel of supposed racism and elitism. I’m sure that
NCCU, the school of the alleged victim, would be thrilled to hire some
of these disgruntled professors. As would scores of colleges that don’t
accept quite so many “children of privilege.”
Yeah, like that’ll happen.
