U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes said the following at a Concord rally for John McCain on Oct. 4:
Liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.
He at first denied having made the remark, only to have an audio version show him to be wrong on that score. But, while he could have been more diplomatic and said “liberals dislike” instead of “hate, like Michele Bachmann before him, what he said is arguably true.
Let’s parse it, shall we:
“Liberals hate real Americans…”: Let’s see, liberals hate anything that most Americans like, such as Wal-Mart, NASCAR, hunting, fishing, country music, overt displays of patriotism, and any number of other things leftist elites ridicule. It it’s popular, liberals see it as beneath them.
“…that work and achieve…”: Three words — Joe. The. Plumber. The liberal/Daily Kos/media/Obama campaign hatchet job that was done on a man who was minding his own business, and only asked a question when Barack Obama approached him, is all you need to know.
“… and believe in God.”: This needs no buttressing from me. Everyone knows how liberals feel about God, in one’s life, in the public square, in, well, anything.
So, what is it again that Robin Hayes said that was so controversial?
