This is unprecedented. In about fifteen years of covering local politics, I’ve never seen anything like this. Last week, when I mentioned the story, I recalled how yours truly had complained about similar language in a Buncombe County ordinance, granting authoritarian powers to a stormwater czar. There was no reaction at all, as this shizo, meth-addled, low-information dufus had long been dismissed. In Haywood County, however, the language became an election issue, received newspaper coverage, earned a discussion with the sheriff, and is now being reconsidered by the county commissioners.
