Much less happy talk in this Uptown paper of record run-thru and what could happen to Charlotte’s airline service in the wake of a merger between USAir and Delta. Bottomline, per passenger boarding fees could double and three of the five Charlotte-Douglas concourses could be mothballed.

This fits with Michael Lowrey’s analysis of two weeks ago which found that Charlotte may only wind up with one-third to one-quarter of the daily flights it now supports.

Yet somehow the overall spin on that possibility is presented as not the end of the world, that Charlotte will not be “Des Moines.”

Knowing the Uptown crowd, just being mentioned in the same sentence as a city in Iowa has people in a cold sweat.
