The John Locke Foundation’s work on local issues also has attracted attention this week. Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor discussed Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ student reassignment plans for the new Mint Hill High School during an appearance with Tara Servatius on WBT Radio. Creative Loafing also interviewed Taylor for a story about the potential return of Patrick Cannon to local elected office. Speaking of elected office, the Mint Hill Times highlighted the new JLF checklist for candidates seeking city and town council seats in 2009. In one other election-related item, a Mebane Enterprise article about local council candidate John Walker mentioned his affiliation with the Locke Foundation’s E.A. Morris Fellowship Program. Meanwhile, The Wake Weekly recently published a story discussing the NCTransparency.com site’s ratings for Wake Forest. (NCTransparency.com is an offshoot of state taxpayer watchdog the John Locke Foundation. “When applied to government, transparency means being able to see what elected representatives and bureaucrats are doing with the tax money they take from citizens,” said Joseph Coletti, fiscal and health care policy analyst for the John Locke Foundation. “In the past few years there has been a change in what citizens find acceptable in the way of government transparency.”)
