Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor recently reported that Bank of America is delinquent in paying $95,000 in taxes on a prime parcel in Uptown Charlotte. Taylor’s work prompted a lead story Thursday night on WBTV. Meanwhile, Taylor earned some television time himself this week, in a WCCB story about proposed domestic partner health insurance benefits for Mecklenburg County employees. Also on the local government front, John Locke Foundation Research Director and Local Government Analyst Michael Sanera spoke recently to 11 of Wake County’s 12 mayors. Sanera discussed the flaws in local transit advocates’ plans to institute a new tax for expanded transit service. In other news involving local issues, the Jacksonville Daily News recently cited John Hood’s work in an editorial urging local governments to make cuts and limit obligations during tough economic times. A State Policy Network blog entry highlighted Chad Adams’ recent critique of local governments using “hiring freezes” to disguise an unwillingness to search for meaningful budget cuts.
