The first baby-steps of the transit-tax repeal campaign have already produced a backlash from entrenched interests who favor train-building and transit-oriented development.

A representative of one developer with a national reputation for supporting and sponsoring Smart Growth and Sustainable Development — and who just happens to have built a new development in Northern Meck — has put out the word that any repeal effort will meet vigorous and well-funded opposition.

Repeal must not be such a far-fetched idea after all?

Wonder what they’ll be saying over lunch down at the Chamber? Wanna bet that somebody eventually proposes a “panel” to “study” light rail’s future?

Meanwhile, Stop the Train Mecklenburg rolls on, signing up people to get copies of the repeal petition once it is drafted.
