In an interview this morning on NPR, Newsweek’s London bureau chief
said that most commuters thought it was just a standard issue delay in
the London Underground. Shutting the whole system down doesn’t occur
that frequently, but also seemed to be acceptable. Only later did they
find out that the cause was far from ordinary. So the tube is so
efficient that a terrorist attack doesn’t seem to affect service for
the average person.

On a more serious note, President Bush gave
testimony to the root conflict by comparing the G8’s efforts to save
people from AIDS and poverty in Gleneagles and the terrorists’
willingness to kill innocent people in London.
