Greensboro News & Record reports longtime Guilford County Board of Education chairman Alan Duncan is resigning effective June 30:

In a letter to fellow school board members Wednesday, Duncan said he did not feel he could continue the kind of job the citizens deserve from him, given demands involved with his state-level leadership roles.

Gov. Roy Cooper appointed Duncan to the N.C. State Board of Education in late April. Duncan also is serving on Cooper’s Commission on Access to a Sound, Basic Education and the North Carolina Task Force for Safer Schools.

I don’t know any other board chair, since I started paying attention to public school issues right about the time Duncan took the center chair on the dais. Indeed it will be interesting to watch someone else take the helm.
