In the Fuquay-Varina Independent, newspaper for a “Main Street” community, one reads this:

Cultural Arts Festival to embrace diversity Saturday

The Fuquay-Varina Cultural Arts Society will hold its third annual fall festival on Saturday, September 30, at South Park, 900 South Main St. in Fuquay-Varina. “We’re really excited about it,” said Evelyn Wicker, festival co-chairman. …

Evelyn added, “Our whole purpose is to pull folks together. This isn’t just a black thing or a white thing. It’s about everyone. Diversity isn’t just color. It’s cultures and ideas.”

Diversity … more than color? Culture and ideas? That’s not a university-taught concept of diversity. (Well, NC State’s leadership used to think that way, but now they know differently.)
