Michael Moore – the one from Michigan, not the one from the mountains – wants President Obama, as the new CEO of GM, to put the company on a war footing to build new forms of transportation, like trains. Not just light rail, but high speed rail as he explains. I’ve put the equivalent flying times in brackets.

The fact that the technology already exists for us to go from New York to L.A. in 17 hours by train [five hours by plane – six or seven including security], and that we haven’t used it, is criminal. Let’s hire the unemployed to build the new high speed lines all over the country. Chicago to Detroit in less than two hours [a little over an hour]. Miami to DC in under 7 hours[2.5 hours by plane]. Denver to Dallas in five and a half [2 hours by plane]. This can be done and done now.

And about that convenient timing in Chrysler’s bankruptcy, see here.
