Asheville’s Downtown Master Planning process will begin tomorrow at 6:30 in the Banquet Hall of the Civic Center. Visionaries are invited to impose their sense of taste on private property owners, and at the property owners’ expense. Note how Asheville city government, that institution charged with protecting property rights, proclaims, “Downtown belongs to everyone.”

People Advocating Real Conservancy will host a rally prior to the meeting. They would like to level the buildings across from the Civic Center and create a beautiful park in the middle of downtown. (Everything this side of the street in the photo is fiction.) They also want a moratorium on building downtown.

A follow-up meeting will be hosted by the city at noon this Friday. It is open to all members of the public with the ability to take off work on short notice.
