I smelled funny business with the Dell plant deal weeks ago, now it looks like some in the General Assembly are catching on.
A quickie vote on Thursday as the Easley administration wants will gloss over defects in the deal.
“I can’t get any information,” said Rep. Paul Stam, R-Wake. “It’s an odd way of doing business. The reason they do this right after the election is to make it difficult to mount a coordinated opposition, because so many people are working on the election.”
And here’s another angle, suppose Amendment One passes, can tax-increment financing then immediately get tossed in the incentive deal in some form?
In any event, if the Dell deal is so great for North Carolina on Thursday, it’ll be great a week or two from Thursday too. There is absolutely no reason to give into one of the oldest sales pressure tactics in the book. Limited time offer! Act now! Strictly a low-rent, car salesman type stunt.
