Making college degrees less meaningful

In their Wall Street Journal Op-Ed, Peter McPherson and David Shulenburger argue that more college degrees will be good for the economy. The authors are President and Vice President, respectively, of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.

In my letter to the editor of the Wall Street Journal, I argue that increased access to higher education, via the taxpayer, will blur signals and make the degree less meaningful. Further, increased access will be accompanied by relaxed graduation standards.
