Burlington City Council member David Huffman thinks Alamance County should pony up for more services such as animal services and — you guessed it—- mass transit.

No surprise, County Commissioner Tim Sutton isn’t exactly on board:

Sutton scoffed at the idea that more county dollars are needed for animal services, and he’s reluctant to levy taxes on rental cars or elsewhere for PART service. He is willing to consider bus service that would stay within Alamance County.

“What else would he (Huffman) like for Christmas?” Sutton said. “I don’t know why anyone would think that animals would be strictly a county effort. The county tax dollars go, in my opinion, a lot farther than city tax dollars … I’ve heard this debate before. We pay for way more services and the taxpayers get way bigger bang for their buck than in the city.”
