The N.C. Civic Education Consortium, a project connected with the University of North Carolina School of Government, has developed a 60- to 90-minute program for eighth-graders focusing on “Exploring the Relevance of North Carolina’s State Constitution” (PDF link). One of the tools used in the program is a YouTube video clip of Troy Kickler, N.C. History Project Director, discussing the importance of the state constitution. While Kickler is helping students learn about history, Michael Sanera is attracting attention for his role in helping to make history. Wayne Thorburn’s new book A Generation Awakes: Young Americans for Freedom and the Creation of the Conservative Movement cites Sanera’s involvement in YAF in multiple chapters, including a discussion of Sanera’s role in putting together at Northern Arizona University one of Barry Goldwater’s first speeches after the 1964 presidential election.
