John Locke Foundation and Pope Center analysts spent much of their time this week sharing their expertise with North Carolina’s radio listeners. Carolina Journal Executive Editor Don Carrington continues to reveal new details in the scandal surrounding the Roanoke Rapids Theatre, formerly named for Randy Parton. Carrington discussed the Parton fiasco with both State Government Radio and Lockwood Phillips’ “Viewpoints” show on WTKF Radio. Phillips also took an interest in new peer reviews exposing flaws in the data and model used to project benefits from North Carolina’s proposed global warming policies. Phillips interviewed the Beacon Hill Institute’s Ben Powell about his peer review, then followed up the next day with JLF Vice President for Research Roy Cordato. JLF Vice President Chad Adams wore his Center for Local Innovation hat in explaining the downside of Tax Increment Financing with listeners of Curtis Wright’s program on Wilmington’s WLTT, “The Big Talker.” Adams also used his expertise in political analysis to discuss the impact of Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory’s entry into the Republican gubernatorial primary. McCrory’s campaign announcement also prompted WBT Radio’s Tara Servatius to invite commentary from Meck Deck blogger Jeff Taylor. JLF Senior Fellow Marc Rotterman joined WPTF Radio afternoon host Bill LuMaye to interview former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich. LuMaye also welcomed Pope Center Executive Vice President Jane Shaw to discuss the center’s latest report on education schools in the University of North Carolina system.
