The Waynesville American Legion Post 47 posted an advert for all (public, parochial, military, and private) Haywood County high school students. They are invited to participate in an scholarship contest hosted by the Legion.

Each contestant must give a prepared oration on some phase of the U.S. Constitution, giving emphasis to the duties and obligations of a citizen to the government. Additionally, the contestant must give a short extemporaneous oration on an assigned topic.

As long as the judges aren’t activist, this should be a good thing. The deadline is fast approaching. Those in public schools interested in participating may contact Ron Rookstool at 926-6090. It appears the contest is national, so interested students and parents outside Haywood County should inquire at their local American Legion post.
