NC State University is encouraging people to get together and hoist anything from chairs to chainsaws at various manufacturing facilities and finally in front of the state capitol before Governor Beverly Perdue. The purpose of the rally is to raise awareness about the importance of manufacturing in the state. From September 27 to October 1, the Manufacturing Makes It Real tour will make twelve stops across the state. The “about” section on the web site is labeled, “Manufacturing makes WHAT real?” Everybody is so content these days campaigning for synergy, community, awareness, empowerment, diversity, and all sorts of invisible goods. This tour wants to remind government about the dwindling group of people that participate in the ancient economic practice of making and selling physical objects.
