Big news yesterday that Wake Forest University has signed a five-year deal with the Greensboro Coliseum Complex to manage and book non-university events Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which WFU purchased from the City of Winston-Salem back in May.

The N&R editorializes:

Meanwhile, this contract says a lot about the respect the Greensboro Coliseum commands. It is managed professionally and creatively. It boosts the local economy and quality of life. It will always have its detractors, but it remains a community asset that sets Greensboro apart.

Wake came courtin’ for a reason.

My gut reaction is the $115,000 per year for five years Wake will pony up is kinda lowball —– less than half coliseum director Matt Brown’s annual salary.
