David Hoggard again suggests that War Memorial Stadium be turned over to Greensboro Coliseum director Matt Brown to create a new ‘City Market.’

Remember that Brown is a political powerhouse who was just denied his bid to expand the coliseum complex by the City Council. Odds are good, too, that the council’s tight 5-4 vote was not the last word on that project, since the city is so desperate to justify the purchase of the Canada Dry property.

Another project on the other side of town might just be too much for the council to justify. I realize $1.3 million’s already there, but when you take a look at how the amphitheater project played out, you can’t help but believe that Brown’s involvement would somehow drive up even the $3.8 million ‘Scheme 5’ cost.

Council member Robbie Perkins — an ardent Brown supporter —- says he will speak on the issue at tomorrow night’s meeting. It will be interesting to see if he follows Hoggard’s suggestion.
