A battle is brewing as the City of Lexington considers whether or not to annex 11 areas around the city.

Keith Bost, an opponent of annexation, has had a hard time getting answers to his questions from city staff:

There are several facets of the annexation issue that annoy Bost. He said the city staff, not the council, are controlling the growth direction of the town. He said cities state that they need to grow, but when he asks why, he hasn’t received a direct answer.

Bost has tried to find answers to his questions but said he gets ignored, avoided until after the election or given the same prepared response from the city staff and politicians he talks to. One of the staff members said he studied annexation in college and that it would be difficult for Bost to understand the issue.

“They’re saying they’re smarter than you,” Bost said. “A lot of people would find that insulting.”
