What’s the Real Headline?
In the news today, Mayor Terry Bellamy’s brother was sentenced to prison. Her brother has had problems with the law for a long time. One thing people like about the mayor is her rise out of that environment to a respectable career. No studies were ever cited explaining why the mayor was getting all the credit for her brother’s weaknesses.
I subscribe to the Asheville Police Department’s press release service, which made no mention of the affair. WWNC (570-AM), which normally gets its news from the local daily, echoed the false attribution in its news briefs. Then, the mayor paid an unexpected visit to the Matt Mittan show. She and Matt talked about her courage and leadership, and then I heard the headline no more.
