Greensboro Mayor Yvonne Johnson holds another community meeting. Considering the fact that Monday’s a slow news day, I won’t suggest the N&R is engaging in more cheerleading for the mayor, despite the above-the-fold headline and three accompanying photographs.

Here’s what jumped out at me:

Johnson noted the City Council has little direct impact on schools issues but did weigh in, saying the police department is making more of an effort to work with groups at Dudley and Smith.

Johnson said she would like to see the new superintendent implement sensitivity and racism awareness training and again urged parents, churches and other civic groups to help by getting involved.

Sensitivity and racism awareness in our schools. What a concept. Why hasn’t Guilford County Schools thought of this before? Someone should bring this idea to the school board.

For what it’s worth, here’s John Hammer’s impression of the Mayor Johnson’s last community meeting:

….a long, boring evening that mainly proved that the mayor needs to spend more time doing her homework on issues and listening to someone other than the city manager.

I’ll back up and give Mayor Johnson credit for trying. Perhaps she’ll improve her technique over the course of her term.
