It is Mayor Pat’s very own Sister Soulja moment — getting into a dust-up with the NAACP over thuggish behavior among some African-American teens in Charlotte. Way to polish that “conservative” cred, Mr. Mayor.

Even if this whole thing wasn’t sketched out in advance, it couldn’t have turned out much better for McCrory. Crack down on Uptown July 4th lawlessness with 170 arrests, praise the new city manager for doing so, make a common-sense observation that many African-American youths hanging out Uptown dress like gang members — profit.

Sure, enough here comes the NAACP to mischaracterize what McCrory said and demand an apology. McCrory did not portray “all young black people as troublemakers and gang members.”

Next up, Pat McCrory on his porch in Myers Park standing by what he said and refusing to apologize.

But for some real fun and real drama, the next move after that would be some local black Democrat filing to run against McCrory and against the half-cent transit tax on the grounds that both are sops to the wealthy corporate community.

That would absolutely take McCrory out of his comfort zone. Probably fall right off his front porch on the news.

Update: Ding ding ding! The Mayor spoke to Fox News’ Morgan Fogarty yesterday on his front porch and refused to apologize for “honest feedback.”
