At least Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory and councilman Andy Dulin seem to see the mischief at work in the plan to have the city buy up seven “troublespots” in the Belmont neighborhood.

If the little corner stores are crime magnets, fix the criminal justice system. Do not, under any circumstances, get the city in the speculative real estate market. Frying pan, fire. Get it?

For the most of the Charlotte city council, the answer is, “No.”

Update: Another sure sign Mayor Pat is on the right path, the Uptown paper of record hated his veto of the $1.1 million scheme.
