nnPat McCrory nabbed both some crowd time and some face time during Sarah Palin’s stop in Greenville.

“I’m having pizza with the future vice president,” Pat gushed.

Otherwise, McCrory hit Bev Perdue again on off-shore drilling, which evidently kicked off a “Drill baby drill!” chant from the crowd.

But what I am most intrigued by is the yellow sign in the woman’s hand above. It reads “Sarah Palin is the new Rising Esther.” Come again?

I have to assume this is a biblical reference and if so must pertain to the Jewish woman in ancient Persia who stood up for her people in the face of an impending genocide. This Esther was so beautiful she won the favor of the Persian king Ahasuerus, who supposedly did not know she was Jewish.

Anyway, beyond the beauty part I’m stumped as to the reference to Palin. If she is charming someone with her beauty, who is it and is that a good thing? Is that even a complement? It certainly seems intended to be one. What great threat is Palin standing up against? Not to be obtuse, but I just wonder about the symbolism that is embraced in this duality.

Most of all, I wonder if this woman is alone in this new Estherism, or if it is some sort of meme that is making the rounds under the radar.
