The Uptown paper of record ran with an account of the transit tax repeal effort effectively ghost-scripted by Mayor Pat McCrory’s office. Check out Mayor Pat’s official description of the effort:

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory said, “In one way this is a very public campaign. In another way it’s a stealth campaign.”

Ohhh, a stealth campaign. Very scary. Yup, nothing is more stealthy than standing on street corners all over town asking people to support your plan. Compare that to, oh, Michael Smith and Tim Newman working behind the scenes for a $35 million Uptown baseball deal or a $150 million NASCAR Hall of Fame. Or City Manager-Until-June Pam Syfert negotiating in secret with the NBA for a $265 million Uptown arena to hand over to an owner of the NBA’s choosing.

Yeah, Pat, nothing stealthy there.

And nevermind that his description of the repeal effort makes no sense to any objective observer. The only way you can use that quote without challenge is if you think it is factual. And if you hold that opinion, you’ve got an opinion piece, not news.

Maybe the Mayor should try reading the Meck Deck everyday so he isn’t so surprised by what is going on in his own city.
