The five-part McClatchy series on Guantanamo Bay prisoners, which ran in mid-June in The News & Observer, has been largely ignored by other mainstream media. One critic finds this scandalous, but it doesn’t surprise me.

I read it with interest because the chief reporter, Tom Lasseter, is a fellow University of Georgia grad, but I came away disappointed. The research for the series was based on interviews with 66 former Gitmo detainees who, surprise, said “we wuz framed” and “we wuz mistreated.” Go to any exercise yard in any American prison and talk to 66 people and you’ll get the same response.

I came away feeling this series was much ado about nothing. Apparently, I wasn’t alone.
