Mayor Pat McCrory has his latest TV ad up, the start of more issue-based spots. This one is on taxes and starting running today in Charlotte, Triangle, and Triad markets.
McCrory correctly states that North Carolina’s income tax is too high and the state spends too much — and that’s pretty much it for specifics. I’d like to hear how Pat would cut the income tax and where he’d reduce spending. Also, I want to be sure that Pat is advocating an overall reduction in the tax burden, and not swapping a small, temporary cut in the income tax for a permanent increase in the sales tax.
Much better to go for reform details on that than spend time defending his fiscal record in Charlotte, which has given us by-far the highest overall tax burden in the state — just over $2400 per person, growing at about 10 per cent a year.
I give it a C- — a missed opportunity with gaping hole in the rhetoric.
