Not the stuff of legend, but it’ll do for now.

I still do not understand how Pat McCrory will be able to run against his own police department as a tough-on-crime candidate, but maybe surprises await. Yes, the DAs and the Raleigh-stiffed courts are part of the problem, but so is a police chief and upper brass more concerned with PR than dropping bad guys.

Pat will need some more education ammo, though. That’s why he should rip the guts out of the Gantt Commission report and vow to end micromanagement from DPI. Focus on results, not process. Recall the state “turnaround team” sent to Independence High in 2005 — “I don’t even know what I’m doing here.”

You could say the same thing about the entire Department of Public Instruction.

That tax talk — very cryptic. Cannot make heads or tails out of that. Income tax cut for a sales tax hike, maybe?

And Pat came dangerously close to promising a train in every pot. Maybe that was just nerves. Could hit much, much harder on corruption in Raleigh, too. Maybe there is more to come.

We’ll surely find out soon.

nnUpdate: Under the Dome snagged this gaffe. Are we sure it was a good idea that Pat refused to pay for high-priced consultants?
